Arsenal target RiyadMahrez has signed a new contract with Leicester City that will see him remains with the Premier League champions for 4 years.
It was reported that the midfielder was the subject of a bid from Arsenal, but the player has chosen to stay with Leicester City. This is the second Leicester City player after Jamie Vardy that has snubbed Arsenal.
Arsenal fans were hoping that the signing of Mahrez will help move a team that has been stalling in current years. Indeed, Arsenal has been over-reliant on Olivier Giroud to provide the goals up front and would have hoped that a player of Mahrez’s quality will help the team score more goals. Ever since the departure of Robin Van Persie, Arsenal has struggled to sign a quality striker and although RiyadMahrez is not a striker he would have definitely bring his own share of goals for the team.
Mahrez said that he is happy with Leicester City and believes that he can have a great season by remaining with the Champions. Indeed, it will be the debut season for Leicester City in the Champions League, and they will be hoping to keep their best players so as to be able to perform in Europe’s top competition. So far, Leicester City has only lost Kante, and they will be hoping that he was the last player to have left the team.
Arsenal, on the other hand, is still looking for new players to boost their team. So far they have only signed Rob Holding from Bolton, and Granit Xhaka and fans are hoping that there will be more players to join the team before the end of the transfer window. However, there are little hopes of anything happening especially with Wenger’s stating that he trust his current group of players.
