Sir Alex Ferguson is coming under increasing pressure at Manchester United after he played a crucial role in the appointment of David Moyes as his successor. Moyes has not performed well this campaign and it has seen United suffer one of their worst seasons in history. The club are set to miss out on Champions League football for the first time in recent memory. However from this, they have suffered several defeats at Old Trafford with reigning European champions Bayern Munich set to visit the ground for the Champions League quarter-final. Ferguson urged the supporters to back Moyes when he decided to step down.
Even during a troubled first half of the campaign, United supporters stood by their manager. However, the support seems to be wavering in recent weeks, as there have been noises in the stands about the inability of Moyes to handle such a big job. Arsenal are expected to go through a similar phase when Arsene Wenger steps down from his role. Ferguson was at United for 25 years, while Wenger is just close by at 18 years. Since his contract is up at the end of the campaign, it is widely speculated that Wenger will step down.
He has revealed that he will have no input with regards to his potential successor.
“I always said, and you can check that, everybody has his job (at the club). My job is to do well for the team, not to do anything else. I have told you many times we have had no time to sit down and do it. (I am) not going anywhere, don’t worry for that, but I want to have a feeling coming out of the season that I have done the maximum for the club. Let’s first see when the season is over,” said Wenger.
